17|23 College

current news

Every other week, starting October 12th, we will gather for teaching, encouragement, and fellowship.  Our theme for the next few months is Art Speaks.  Art is one of the primary story tellers of our day.  Good art takes profound ideas or difficult questions and makes them something we can see, touch, or hear.  Once we remove the secular/sacred division that so often plagues our interpretation of art, we can start to engage the art that is all around us.  We'll be asking how does art work (i.e. the textures, colors, and lines of art work)?  Why does it work (i.e. God's gift of beauty and creativity to us)?  How does this piece speak?

Each week we'll take a piece of art from different eras and genres, learn a bit about it, and then reflect on it as a group.

what is 17|23?

Quest Church 17|23 Community is a ministry seeking to reach, engage, and release those that fall within the ages between 17 and 23. It includes college and grad students, recent graduates, and others in this season of life.

our vision

  • connection with the church: With all the transitions and moving finding a faith community outside the dorm or campus can be hard to come by.  Our goal is to help you feel rooted and at home in Quest -- that you belong.  We do this by encouraging the mentor program at Quest and bringing in volunteers and speakers from the larger Quest community
  • connection with others:  We're hard wired for community.  Our analogy is a family within a family, and so we gather, eat together, hang out, and have our discussions in smaller groups as the means of developing an authentic sense of connection amoung the 17|23 group.
  • connection with god: The time after high school is often a time of questioning, owning your identity, and intellectual rigor.  We also love to discuss the big questions and ask how our faith can engage with culture and be relevant for today.  But we also know that what is so often lacking during this time is not wrestling with faith, but practicing faith.  We seek to engage the questions of the day, but also provide space to breathe and to simply be present before God.  Saint Theophan put it well: the principal thing is to stand before God with the mind in the heart, and to go on standing before him unceasingly day and night, until the end of life
