Questers Brian and Nicole Hickory are set to head for Tanzania this July to partner in setting up long term relationships with people in the village of Chamwino, and to explore God's call to mission on their own lives. Please read their support letter below, and prayerfully consider supporting them through prayer, encouragment, and financial giving.

 Brian and Nicole

Dear Friends and Family,

Nicole and I have an amazing opportunity to go on a mission trip to Tanzania in Africa this summer.  Since we have been married, we have been praying that God may use us in a way to develop relationships with people outside of our community here in Seattle, WA.  We have been blessed with an opportunity to go to the village of Chamwino to help build a public school, provide musical instruments and tuition for the University of Dar Es Salam, help with the development of HIV/AIDS prevention and establish a faith based relationship between Quest Church and the people in Chamwino.  Tanzania has been very stable relative to many countries in Africa, which is why we believe the Tanzanians will have success in creating a sustainable community in our partnership with them. This is the beginning of a vision for the village, Quest Church and for Nicole and I.

The primary purpose of this trip is to develop and sustain a postcolonial partnership with Tanzanians.  We want to help Africans solve Africa’s problems.  We recognize the needs that exist, and want to form authentic, sustainable relationships.  Our mission is not to help build a school for two weeks and leave; we are looking at long term goals and visions.  We are going to Tanzania on the basis of helping the village execute their plans to form a healthy and educational based community.  We will be an aid to them, but the people of the village are the driving force behind this entire trip.  The village is currently building a public school that will provide education to both orphans and the children in the village.  The school is part of the St. Peters Anglican Church which is working in partnership with Quest Church (our church in Seattle) to help with supplies and finances for the project. We will also be assessing the needs for HIV/AIDS education and prevention in Tanzania.  Nicole and I will be providing first hand information to David Owen who is conducting HIV/AIDS research at the University of Washington; he will hopefully visit the village in the future for his research.  Finally, we will be bringing musical instruments and financial aide to the college students at the University of Dar Es Salam.  Tanzanians are extremely talented musicians because their music is enriched into their culture. We believe music can bring people of different nations, language, culture and religious backgrounds together that may not be achievable with volunteer work or aid.

Nicole and I are writing this letter to ask for your support in our mission trip to Tanzania; we need to raise $6,500.  Your donation will help cover supplies for building the school, tuition for the Tanzanian college students and our travel expenses.  We will be traveling to Tanzania from July 21st to August 3rd, 2008.  You can make the check payable to Quest Church.  It is hard to write all the information in one letter, so you can go to www.seattlequest.org/global-presence-missions for more information about our trip and our church.  We have also provided the address to mail your donation, our e-mail and phone number below for you to contact us with any questions.  Thank you for all your support, Nicole and I are so thankful for this opportunity to be apart of this vision with the people in Chamwino.

Sincerely,

Brian and Nicole Hickory
