We believe that we serve a God who is the ultimate creator-- designed, planned and brought into motion our world and our lives. We, made in His image, are also called to create, to beautify our surroundings, to explore expression and to appreciate the means we have to capture our world and give back. How is our art, our creations worship and reverence to our God? In addition, as much as we are given the gift of creation as a means to enjoy, to explore, to learn, to grow and to worship-- how is our art, our creations used to speak into the larger issues of our world? How can we use our art to shed light, cultivate awareness and establish understanding within our communities? This form can take various faces ranging from expressions of story and injustice right in the artistic piece itself to partnerning our work with others to bring understanding and support. Whatever the means, we have to be engaging this work with integrity and with the core desire to bring glory to God and to tell people's stories with dignity and care. These are questions, concepts and ideas that we'll be exploring at artSpeak | an art fair hosted by Quest Justice and Compassion on May 28th & 29th. On the 28th, we'll be holding workshops which explore various mediums like: PHOTOGRAPHY, CREATIVE WRITING (including poetry & song writing), PAINTING, DANCE, THEATRE & DRAMA, FOOD, GRAPHIC DESIGN, & CRAFTS. The workshops will be an opportunity to learn the fundamental aspects of the medium, to network & connect and to explore ways in which we can use our mediums to share story, advocate and shed light. On the 29th, our art fair will culminate with a Quest-wide open mic and art gallery. We hope to showcase the talent of those in our Quest community from poets, spoken word artists to musicians. Our art gallery will be featuring painters and photographers within the community. Submission forms will be available at welcoming table on Sundays. While we take time to enjoy the vast talent that is at Quest we will be utilizing this event to draw awareness around issues of homelessness and raising funds to go towards the cause. The open mic will have a cover charge [TBD]. If you're interested in getting involved please contact Pastor DeAnza at deanza@seattlequest.org.
