Quest's Annual Thanksgiving Dinner for the homeless

Every year the Justice and Compassion ministries at Quest church hosts a meal for the homeless. As the holiday season is upon us-- it is that time of year to get geared up for another fabulous Thanksgiving dinner for the larger community, namely men, women and children who are homeless and who live in our neighborhood. This is one of those rare opportunities that we have to serve a hearty, healthy meal while sitting down and conversing with men and women who face the difficult struggles of being homeless in our city. It is an opportunity for us to go deeper in our service to the homeless and although it is something we only offer once a year it is a significant part of our outreach. Last year we hosted 75 people and this year we expect to host 150 over the dourse of two dinners on November 22nd one at 5 pm and the second one at 7 pm. The feedback that we received from folks last year was consistent and rang of thankfulness as several people shared how they hadn't had a sit down thanksgiving dinner with family, community or friends in years and how they felt so thankful to have the opportunity to share in a meal with others. We are still recruiting volunteers for this fabulous event. If you'd like to be involved please contact Pastor DeAnza at deanza[at]seattlequest.org. We hope to have you join us on the 22nd!

Learning Conversation with Shane Claiborne on November 9

faith, evolution, and creation oh my!

Growing up, evolution was a huge issue for me. I was convinced that my faith rested on evolution being a myth which made biology class almost as scary as prom. Every time I cracked open the text book I was on the lookout for some new way that science would take one more strut out of the foundation of my faith. It wasn't until after college that I began to feel that maybe, just maybe, God was actually big enough to handle being Creator and Sustainer, regardless of whether I ended up being young earth or old earth, creationist, evolutionist, or intelligent designist.

So I've been following the Nickelsville situation for a few weeks now, as they've been getting more attention and press here in Seattle. It seems that the Nickelsville community which has just been relocated to Discovery Park from South Seattle will be having to move again... to get more info on the situation you can read here.

Welcome New Staff!

Summer at Quest was a busy time of planning and preparation for the future of our church. As an Elder Board, we spent much time in prayer and in the interview process for key ministry positions at Quest. This past week, we made the last of our staff hires, and have been excitedly sharing the news about our new Children and Family Ministries staff members, Youth Director, and College and Community Group Ministry Director. Whew! That's quite a few new staff! Please continue reading to learn more about Christina, Katey, Jason and Josh, and welcome them to Quest Staff!

Community, College, and Depth: Good Happenings this Fall

One of Quest's core values is community because we believe that not only do we need to be meeting as smaller groups in order to be church during the rest of the week, but also because God has wired us to be in relationships with others. C-Groups encompass worship, prayer, study, and service but at their
root, they are about forming deep relationships between each other and
God. This year we have a range of great topics being studied, everything from book studies about Christian discipleship to looking at food and theology to Bible studies. September 28th is the launch date when we'll publish the brochure of various c-groups (which will also be online) and when you can jump in.
