A key element of the mission of our children’s ministry is helping kids see their place in the ‘Big God Story’. This includes how we see the world, and how we live in the world. Our desire to help kids learn about new places, and serve God by loving others takes many shapes and forms throughout the year. We teach about missions, learn about missionary life from friends around the world, and put our faith in motion by serving others.
Beginning at VBS in July, we introduced a new partnership with Children of the Nations. We are doing an event called Meal Packaging. With just 25 cents we can purchase supplies to provide a meal package to feed an orphan for a whole day…that is amazing! So the preschool through gradeschool kids are collecting quarters and fundraising so we can feed kids in Sierra Leone, Uganda, the Dominican Republic and Malawi.
Our goal: to collect 20,000 quarters to package 20,000 meals!
If you do the math, that is $5,000. Pretty crazy right? But with the help of kids, parents, global village leaders, and the larger Quest community- we believe it’s an attainable goal! The kids will be learning about the countries where kids are that may get the meals we package, they will learn about how missionaries raise funds, and put it into practice by writing their own letters to raise money for our project. They will get a taste of the food that will be shipped out, and learn what it means to sacrifice our own wants for the needs of others.
We have 2 months to raise the funds, and on Saturday November 12, we will invite the Quest Community to join us for a two-hour Meal Packaging EVENT, that will bless, literally, thousands of people’s lives! All ages will work together to measure and weigh and fill the bags and pack the boxes that will be sent to one of the countries to feed hungry children.
This coin drive and fundraiser is a chance to put into DAILY practice our act of worship: to love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, mind AND strength! (Deut 6:5, Luke 10:27)
