17|23 Gathering: Advent, Art, and Action

Christmas is around the corner which means a few things: finals will be over soon, time to see family, and time to shop. Crazy fact: America spends $450 billion every year on Christmas. We'll take a look at how Advent, the church's season of preparation for the birth of Jesus, can provide some spiritual disciplines that might enable us to escape the stress and consumer frenzy that overtakes us, including the church, each year.WHERE: Q Cafe, 3223 15th Ave WWHAT ELSE: Pizza dinner. Transportation a problem? Contact <!--

Finals are over (for most, anyway) so we'll be heading out to the slopes to celebrate. So if you're around dust off your skis or snowboard and join us. We'll be meeting at the Quest parking lot at 6:30am, though if you need us to pick you up that's not a problem. We'll decide the location as the time gets closer and we have a better idea of where the snow is good.

Make sure to RSVP with Jason, <!--

Acts 15:22-25; What Does Salvation Look Like?

Continuing in the same vein as last week, Eugene continues to look at the question of salvation, this time tackling the question of "what are the marks of salvation?" The passage points to the answer being presence and fruit of the Holy Spirit. Also tackled is the importance of not flying solo when it comes to leadership in the church.

Quest's Annual Thanksgiving Dinner for the homeless

Every year the Justice and Compassion ministries at Quest church hosts a meal for the homeless. As the holiday season is upon us-- it is that time of year to get geared up for another fabulous Thanksgiving dinner for the larger community, namely men, women and children who are homeless and who live in our neighborhood. This is one of those rare opportunities that we have to serve a hearty, healthy meal while sitting down and conversing with men and women who face the difficult struggles of being homeless in our city. It is an opportunity for us to go deeper in our service to the homeless and although it is something we only offer once a year it is a significant part of our outreach. Last year we hosted 75 people and this year we expect to host 150 over the dourse of two dinners on November 22nd one at 5 pm and the second one at 7 pm. The feedback that we received from folks last year was consistent and rang of thankfulness as several people shared how they hadn't had a sit down thanksgiving dinner with family, community or friends in years and how they felt so thankful to have the opportunity to share in a meal with others. We are still recruiting volunteers for this fabulous event. If you'd like to be involved please contact Pastor DeAnza at deanza[at]seattlequest.org. We hope to have you join us on the 22nd!
